Pay attention to how you lay sod. Before laying sod, you have to make sure the soil is accurately prepared. Remove the weeds, then break up the soil into fine tilth. Using a light but firm touch, compact the soil until it is flat. Thoroughly water the soil. Lay the sod in rows, and make sure the joints do not overlap. Cut away extra sod and save it to fill in gaps you may create later. Water your sod daily for a fortnight, which is enough time for it to root and be able to withstand foot traffic.

Clay soil can be very hard to work with, and you will often find that it sticks to the shovel. Make your shoveling job easier by lightly coating a shovel with a layer of wax, then buffing the surface.

Your plants will respond better to gradual changes of environment. Try placing them outside in sunlight for about an hour or maybe two the first day. Over the course of a week, slowly increase the amount of time that you leave them outside. If you do this correctly, the plants should be able to make their final move at the end of a week’s time.

Turn the handles of your garden tools into measuring rulers. You can use shovels or rakes as measuring sticks. Just lay your tool down on the floor then lay a yardstick beside the handle. With a permanent marker, note pertinent measurements on the tool handle. You will never find yourself looking for a ruler thanks to this simple tip.

Stink Bugs

The first thing you can do to ward off garden pests is to ensure you are using healthy soil in your garden. Healthy soil encourages vigorous plant growth and makes your garden more resistant to common diseases and insects.

When gardening, beware of stink bugs and other insects, particularly in the autumn. Stink bugs like to eat beans, peppers, tomatoes, and all sorts of fruit. If not managed well, they can wreak havoc on your garden.

Prepare your seeds by soaking them in a dark environment. Place your seeds in a container filled with water. This lets water soak into the seeds, giving them an extra boost of hydration when they start growing. The seeds will be better able to survive and grow up.

Divide your irises. The more you divide clusters of irises, the more your irises will multiply. After the foliage dies, pick up bulbous irises. They will literally split in your hand, flowering the next year after replanting. Divide rhizomes with a knife. Cut the new pieces from its outside and dispose of the older center. Each new piece you cut should possess at least one healthy offshoot. The quicker you can replant your cuttings, the better chances they will reappear next season.

Plant annuals and biennials to make your flower beds brighter. Your flower beds will look different from one season to another.

If you decide to grow peas, think about planting them indoors when you first start them off, as opposed to planting them outdoors. If you were to plant them inside first, the seeds should germinate better. The seedling may also be hardier, which means that they can better resist disease and attacks from pests. After the seedlings get mature enough, transplant them to your outdoor garden.

Protect cuts from dirt and chemicals, and think about staying away from horticulture until they heal. The dirt and grime you come into contact with while horticulture can cause even a small cut to become seriously infected. Now, there are bandages available that will cover and seal the injured area completely, allowing you to continue your horticulture projects.

Your organic horticulture efforts will get easier as you pick up more and more tips and techniques about this activity. Reading this article was the perfect way to set the ball in motion.
